Obsessive Compulsive Procrastinator

There is so much I still want to do. I want to write and read/review new writers just beginning their journey; new patchwork ideas are running through my head like I have all the time in the world. With a 49th wedding anniversary last week and another birthday in a couple of days, how can an obsessive compulsive procrastinator get everything done?

I want to start over!

Negative Energy and Loneliness

Loneliness is one of the most devastating and dangerous emotion humans suffer. It is a cause of deep depression and rage, and a direct link to suicide. We need to care and be cared for by someone. It’s a basic need as important as food and water, and that very interaction is becoming too scarce for our health. Loneliness kills.

One reason we are more lonely in today’s busy world is because we are turning into a rude, negative society. We aren’t friendly or personable, and negativity jumps directly from one person to the next. We don’t smile with our eyes and we don’t really like very many people. The law of the universe demands we receive exactly that which we give out. Negativity attracts negative energy so things only get worse.

With e-mail, text messaging and instant messaging, we don’t have to meet face to face anymore, and our social skills are disappearing. Smiley’s have taken the place of real smiles and we think that’s enough to soften a rude remark. Blogging and message boards can bring out the worst in people who bluntly write things they would never say face-to-face. Manners have taken a flying leap and mean rudeness has become the false metaphore of honesty. How many blogs have a prominent statement right up front warning the writing is telling it ‘like it is’, and if you, Dear Reader, don’t like it, you can get the F out? Rudeness gathers its own around and each tries to outdo the other. And we call this modern communication.

Businesses have taken to using recordings to deal with customers because of the cursing their employees had to deal with. We complain of the recordings and want to talk to a ‘real’ person, but whose fault is it that we can’t? Have you ever called customer service and told them what a lousy job they do? Would you want to help someone solve their problem after being spoken to that way? The bad vibes are passed on, one person at a time.

Just as a flutter of a butterfly wing in one part of the world changes the weather in the opposite hemisphere, a single frown or a smile can affect the world. Negative and positive energy are powerful natural forces, and we aren’t smart enough to take advantage of them. The idea that humans can change the world through their thoughts may be too ‘new-age’ for many, but think about it honestly before brushing it away. After all, it’s been working since the beginning of time.

Try your own experiment.

  • Listen to only upbeat, happy music for a day.
  • Accentuate the positive in everything for a day.
  • Eliminate all negative thinking for a day.
  • Smile with your eyes, voice, and mouth for a day.
  • Take a few moments to quiet the chaos within by gazing at beauty.
  • Remember a moment of peace and let the feeling flow through you.
  • Laugh.

At the end of the day, if you don’t feel more positive, give it one more day. You can’t erase years of negative thinking from your psyche in a few hours.

Look at people’s faces as you pass on the street. No one looks directly at anyone anymore, so this may be difficult to do, but not impossible. Catch someone’s eye and smile. Take a moment to compliment someone, smile and move on. That compliment and smile will boost the positive energy and you’ll feel as good as the recipient. I know because I’ve done it, not often enough though. The positive energy will begin to gather around you like a magnet. The more you do this, the easier it will be to develop the habit so it’s a natural part of your personality. Positive thoughts attract positive energy – pass it on and change the world.
